University of Michigan Sample Admission Essay

The University of Michigan admissions essays are out for 2013-2014 and we at Ivy Coach have got them for you. In the fist supplemental essay prompt for the University of Michigan, which is the same as in previous years, students are asked: “Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it.” We in the admissions community call this one the — wait for it — communities essay. This supplemental essay prompt is required of all applicants to UMich and should be approximately 250 words in length, although the length has not yet been confirmed for the 2013-2014 admissions cycle.

Shame on the University of Michigan for changing their admission essay questions midstream.

The second essay prompt reads: “Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?” This, too, is the same question as in previous years and it is required of all applicants to the University of Michigan. While the length for this essay also has not been confirmed just yet for the 2013-2014 admissions cycle, it will likely be 500 words maximum.

If you are thinking of transferring to Saginaw Valley State University from a two-year community college, our transfer guides are designed to help provide important information about the classes to consider taking prior to initial transfer. You are not required to complete all of the classes listed on the guide before enrolling at SVSU. Changes occasionally take place at SVSU and at other colleges, so the information provided is subject to change. Students intending to transfer to SVSU from another college or university are responsible for planning their courses to meet the requirements at SVSU. Students are STRONGLY encouraged to maintain regular contact with an SVSU pre-admission transfer adviser. Information provided on this site is for incoming transfer students, not for currently enrolled SVSU students.

Reverse Transfer is an optional process by which transfer students currently enrolled in a four-year university can transfer university credits back to their former community college in an effort to qualify for an associate degree credential from that community college. Formal Reverse Transfer arrangements exist between SVSU and each of the following Michigan community college partners:

SVSU's commitment to Michigan community college students is reflected through SVSU's participation in both the MACRAO Agreement and the Michigan Transfer Agreement/MTA. If your transfer transcript reflects either MACRAO or MTA completion, then all 30 of your MACRAO/MTA credits will be applied so that you will have met 30 (the majority) of SVSU's general education requirements. If you are planning eventual transfer to SVSU, then contact SVSU's Office of Admission to see if either MACRAO or MTA is right for you. For more information about how to earn either agreement, contact the academic advising office of the school where you will pursue the MACRAO/MTA requirements.

Admitted students have an ongoing responsibility to inform the Office of Undergraduate Admissions or admitting office of any changes to their disciplinary and/or criminal history until they begin their first term of enrollment at the university. Failure to report prior or pending disciplinary and/or criminal history may result in the withdrawal of application or revocation of admission.

University of michigan admission essay questions

We can’t help but say: Shame on the University of Michigan for making the already stressful highly selective college admissions process even more stressful for applicants to the university. It’s a slap in the face to every student who put in the time and energy in the hope of gaining admission to Michigan. It’s a slap in the face to all college applicants — not just those to the University of Michigan — because this kind of says to other highly selective colleges throughout the country that it’s alright to do something like this.
