My reading of the assignment of the upcoming week has been particularly informative. I have gathered interesting aspects of quasi experimental designs. In particular, I have realized that quasi is an essential experimental design that comes in handy when random, assignment of subjects to experimental and control groups is impossible. In addition, I have gained much interesting insight to other set of designs such as factorial experiments. It was also interesting to learn about the problems involved in measuring change. This is particularly of identifiable with me as an interior design student because most experiments in educational research usually involve the effect of training procedure in student gain in achievement or alternative change in performance. Generally, it was interesting to know that random assignment of subjects to the experiment as well as control groups is central element of experimental design.
The reading assignment for the upcoming weeks builds well on the course content to this end. These include such aspects as the description of the procedures used to lessen arising initial differences as a result of nonrandom assignments to experimental together with control treatments. Similarly, the description of the steps and statistical procedures involved in using the various quasi experimental designs compliment the research procedures used in interior design field. Further, the quasi experiments have built understanding on how best to rule many of the common threats to internal validity that preceded this chapter. This chapter also does well to emphasis the belief in interior design that experiment is not by any means an end in all task. It is a process of discovery, and quasi experiments serve to reinforce this fact (Gall & Borg, 1996).
Presently I am an Interior design student and on internship with one of the design firms in the state. The class experience of the previous week together with the course content thus goes well with me. This is because the experience has enriched my knowledge on the aspect of internal validity which is an integral part in my professional practice. I currently better placed to make valid assessments and conclusions regarding a range of themes that I may encounter in the course of duty as an interior designer. In addition, the course content has enriched my knowhow and thus placed at competitive edge in the job market. In summary, the class experience coupled with the comprehensive and concise course content helps me transform from an amateur into a professional interior designer to my delight.
